Gymkhana Australia: Travis Pastrana's Subaru Brat Unleashed! (Aussie Shred) (2025)

Bold statement: Olympic-grade stunt culture meets Aussie grit in a single cinematic drop, and this time it’s coming straight from Down Under. The Gymkhana franchise returns with a fresh entry that showcases Australia in a whole new light, led by action sports icon Travis Pastrana. And here’s the hook: this is the first time the series has officially brought its high-octane flair to Australia, after a long-planned 2016 visit was halted by local anti-hoon laws in New South Wales.

The forthcoming video, titled “Aussie Shred,” is slated to drop next week with Hoonigan at the helm. Pastrana will once again push the limits, and this time he has the blessing of local authorities to shoot across three iconic locations. A teaser trailer reveals glimpses of the action, with the full video scheduled for release on December 10 at 1am AEDT.

Early footage hints at the centerpiece: the Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo, based on the first-generation Brat ute (marketed in Australia as the Brumby). The teaser shows scenes filmed in Sydney, on the legendary Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, and in the stark landscapes of Broken Hill.

Bathurst was captured on the eve of this year’s Bathurst 1000, with Pastrana collaborating with Supercars to feature a roster of series stars and cars, adding another layer of cross-pollination between disciplines.

In addition to the on-screen action, Hoonigan released a detailed YouTube feature covering the Brat’s build. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter flat-four engine capable of around 500 kW and 922 Nm, paired with all-wheel drive and a rallycross-derived Sadev six-speed sequential transmission. The chassis is wrapped in carbon fiber, and the livery—designed by Khyzyl Saleem—draws inspiration from Australia’s red dust and native wildlife, echoing Saleem’s previous work on high-profile projects like the TWR Supercat and Pastrana’s Gymkhana Family Huckster.

A technical highlight of the Brataroo is its active aero system: adjustable front wheel-arch vents and rear wings that modulate downforce to suit the moment. Given Pastrana’s known preference for airborne stunts, these features are likely to play a pivotal role in Aussie Shred.

This release marks Pastrana’s second Gymkhana installment since the passing of Gymkhana founder Ken Block in 2023. Block had a prolific run, creating ten Gymkhana videos and two Audi-related projects, one of which appeared posthumously.

If you’re curious about the car itself, you can check out a feature highlighting Travis Pastrana’s Gymkhana Australia Subaru Brat, with more context available through the linked coverage.
